Throughout the testing of a Batch, the Lab Manager and quality assurance personnel review completed Lab Tests and Lab Samples. These interim reviews are done to assess quality, determine if additional tests are needed, and ultimately minimize the time required for reviewing the Batch. Reviewers look for any exceptions that may require additional testing, investigation, or a reason to prevent the batch from being released. Vault LIMS includes an intuitive test, sample, and batch review interface which focuses on exception-based review.

Test Set Review Interface

The test set review interface includes the following sections:

The top section of the test review interface displays the executed Lab Method as the title. You can exit the review by clicking the Exit button. Click the Complete button to move any tests still in the Testing Complete state to Reviewed.

Exception Summary

The upper area contains a summary of all exceptions which occurred during testing. This section is not displayed if there are no exceptions. The types of exceptions and their associated icons are the same as those which Analysts see during test execution. The numbers in this section are totals which include exceptions in all Lab Tests in the Lab Test Set.

Results Review

The middle section of the test set review interface contains a results grid with columns for each sample, and indicates individual exceptions on each Lab Result value. The View History action is available on each result cell and will show a complete history of data entered for the Lab Result.

Test Detail

The lower section of the test review interface displays additional details about the included tests and allows you to perform actions on the individual Lab Test records. You can change the Test Detail section display settings using the section-level Actions menu.

Reviewing Test Sets

To review a test set:

  1. From a Batch or Lab Sample object record detail page, perform the Review Test Set action on a related Lab Test or Lab Test Set object record.
  2. On the test review page, review the Lab Results and any exceptions that occurred in the tests.
  3. Perform state change actions on individual Lab Tests in the test detail section as necessary. For example, you might reject an individual test from the set by performing the Change State to Rejected action.
  4. Once you have finished reviewing, click Complete.

Vault changes the lifecycle state of the associated tests to Reviewed when completing the review. This lifecycle state change can trigger additional workflows and tasks as configured for your organization’s processes.

Reviewing Samples & Batches

A review of a Lab Sample or Batch consists of reviewing data on the associated record’s object detail page and then performing the appropriate Approve or Reject action. Lab Sample and Batch object record detail pages contain special Exception Summary, Lab Tests, and Specification Criteria Evaluation (Batch only) sections to help Lab Managers or quality assurance personnel review pertinent data during reviews.

Exception Summary

This section contains a summary of all exceptions which occurred during testing. The types of exceptions and their associated icons are the same as those which Analysts see during test execution, as well as an Additions exception to alert if one or more Lab Tests or Lab Samples were added to Lab Samples or the Batch, respectively. The numbers in this section are totals which include exceptions in all Lab Tests in the Lab Test Set associated with this sample or batch.

Lab Tests

The special Lab Tests section contains Lab Test record data including a graphical display of the associated exceptions.

Specification Criteria Evaluation

The Specification Criteria Evaluation section is available on Batch record detail pages and lists Lab Specification details associated with the batch results. The section displays exceptions and allows you to navigate directly to the associated Lab Result for detailed review.
