# Configuring QR Code Generation

Vault Admins can configure a user action to allow users to generate QR codes linking directly to a Vault document or, if your organization uses Veeva Station Manager, to a _Station Document_ or category.

Note: This article covers configuration for user-generated QR codes only. For details on reconciling controlled copies via QR code, see Extensible Controlled Copy Configuration.

## Configuring QR Code Generation

To allow QR code generation, you can add the QR Code user action in appropriate lifecycle states (such as _Effective_) of Vault documents. The QR code generated for Vault documents always links the user to the latest steady state version of the document.

### About Station Manager QR Code Generation

You can also configure the QR Code user action on the _Station Document_, _Station Document Categories_, or _Station Document Categorization_ object lifecycles. To open documents with the Station Manager QR code reader in Station Manager, the document must be associated with a station as a _Station Document_. The Station Manager QR code reader does not open codes generated for Vault documents and only opens those generated for _Station Document_ and _Station Manager Category_ records.
