# Configuring Master Forms (QualityDocs)

QualityDocs Vaults include the _Master Forms_ feature to support quality teams in managing forms and creating executable copies. Document owners can mark documents as master forms, and users can create executable copies of the master forms.

## Configuring Master Forms

To configure the _Master Forms_ feature:

1. Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Document Fields**.  
2. Add the **Master Form** (`master_form__v`) field to applicable document types.  
3. Navigate to **Configuration > Document Lifecycles > Draft to Effective Lifecycle**.  
4. Create a user action on any applicable steady state as follows:  
   * **Condition Type**: Select **All conditions are met**  
   * **If**: Select **Master Form > equals > Yes**  
   * **Allow the following actions**: Select **Execute Form**  
     * **Action Label**: Enter **`Execute Form`**.  
     * **Suffix to Append to Executed Forms**: Enter **`Executed Form`** or your desired suffix.  
     * **Document Type**: Select a document type.  
     * **Document Subtype**: Select a document subtype.  
     * **Classification**: Select a document classification, if applicable.  
     * **Default Lifecycle**: Select a lifecycle to assign to the executed form.  
     * **Optional Fields to Copy**: Select the fields that will be copied over to the executed form. Vault also automatically lists the **Required Fields Copied**.  
5. Click **Save**.  
6. Navigate to **Admin > Settings > Application Settings**.  
7. Click **Edit**.  
8. Select the **Enable Based on Master Form document relationship type** checkbox.  
9. Click **Save**.

## Related Permissions

Users must be assigned a permission set with the below permissions in order to work with master forms.

| Permission Label | Permission | Controls |
| ----- | ----- | ----- |
| Admin: Document Fields | Read, Create, Edit | Ability to add the _Master Form_ field to applicable document types and for document owners to select a _Master Form_ field value. |
| Admin: Document Lifecycles | Read, Create, Edit, Delete | Ability to configure the _Execute Form_ user action on the _Draft to Effective_ lifecycle. |
| Document Role | View Document, View Content, Create Document | Ability to view the master form and perform the _Execute Form_ action. |
| Document Role | Edit Fields | Ability to edit fields on the copied form. If the user has this permission, Vault opens the newly created copy in edit mode. |
