# Configuring Test Step Tables (Validation Management)

Organizations can enable _Test Step_ tables, which enhance _Test Script_ structures by providing a tabular view for grouped test steps. By defining a reusable test step structure, Test Authors can rapidly generate consistent steps for repetitive verification tasks.

To configure _Test Step_ tables:

* [Enable _Test Step_ tables][1]
* [Update test step objects][2]
* [Configure test step lifecycles and workflows][3]
* [Update permission sets][4]

## Enabling Test Step Tables {#enable}

To enable test step tables:

1. Navigate to **Admin > Settings > Application Settings**.
2. Click **Edit**.
3. Select the **Enable Test Step Table** checkbox. This setting is only available when the _Enable Copy Enhancements for Activities and Protocols_ checkbox is selected.
4. Click **Save**.

## Updating Test Step Objects {#objects}

To update test step objects for test step tables:

* On the _Test Step_ object:
  * Activate the **Execution Step Table** and **Setup Step Table** object types.
  * Assign the **Executor** field to the _Execution Step Table_ and _Setup Step Table_ object types.
* Activate the **Numeric Spec Response** object type on the _Test Step Additional Prompt_ object.
* Assign the **Prompt Field** to the following object types on the _Validation Test Script Comment_ object:
  * **Dry Run Step Comment**
  * **Post-Approval Comment**

## Configuring Test Step Lifecycles & Workflows {#lifecycle-workflow}

To configure an object workflow for test step tables:

1. Navigate to **Configuration > Workflows**.
2. Create a new object workflow:
   1. Enter a **Label**.
   2. In the _Lifecycle_ drop-down, select the **Test Step Additional Prompt Lifecycle**.
   3. Select the **Allow auto-start from entry action and event action** checkbox.
3. Add the following _Action Step_:
   1. Condition Type: **Always**
   2. Perform action: **Change State**
   3. Lifecycle State: **Locked - Pre-Approval**

To update test step lifecycles for test step tables:

1. Navigate to **Admin > Configuration > Object Lifecycles > VM Test Script Lifecycle** (`val_test_script_svo_lifecycle__v`).
2. Under _States_, click **In Pre-Approval**.
3. Add the **Apply Table Structure to Rows** entry action.
4. Navigate to the **In Dry Run** state.
5. Add the **Apply Table Structure to Rows** entry action.
6. Navigate to **Configuration > Object Lifecycles > Test Step Additional Prompt Lifecycle**.
7. Add an event action as follows:
   1. Condition Type: **Formula evaluates to TRUE**
   2. IF this formula is TRUE: **`And(test_step_vr.state_v= "Locked - Pre-Approval", Not(IsBlank(table_column_definition_v)))`**
   3. Perform actions: **Start Workflow**
   4. Start Workflow: Select the workflow you created.

## Update Permission Sets {#permissions}

Lastly, you must navigate to **Admin > Users & Groups > Permission Sets** and edit any applicable permission sets as follows:

1. Add _Create_ and _Delete_ permissions on the **Execution Step Table** and **Setup Step Table** types of the _Test Step_ object.
2. Add _Create_ and _Delete_ permissions on the **Numeric Spec Response** type of the _Test Step Additional Prompt_ object.
3. Click the **Validation Test Comment** (`val_test_script_comment__v`) object.
4. Add the _Edit_ object field permission for the **Prompt Field**.

If you do not grant users the specified permissions, Vault cannot load the execution and authoring interfaces.

## Test Step Table Limitations {#limitations}

The following limitations apply to _Test Step_ tables:

* _Test Step_ tables can include a maximum of 15 columns and 500 rows.
* You cannot convert normal test steps into table rows. Additionally, existing table rows cannot be moved to different tables.
* Vault rounds the calculated acceptance criteria range limits for each row to a maximum of nine decimal places. For example, if an expected value is 3.123456789 and the acceptance criteria is a 0.125% range, Vault enforces a range of 2.96728395 - 3.279629628 rather than the exact unrounded values of 2.96728394955 - 3.27962962845. Entered values are validated against this nine-digit rounded number to reduce confusion.
