# Using Periodic Risk Review (QMS)

As an organization's business environment changes, so do the risks posed to its enterprise and operational processes. Your organization may need to periodically review its _Risk Assessments_ to ensure they are addressing risk appropriately based on the current state. This allows your organization to understand how risk changed over a period of time, providing insight into how you might continue to address risk.

When performing periodic reviews, organizations want to capture a snapshot of a _Risk Assessment_ and its _Assessment Risks_. If configured by an Admin, QMS contains capabilities to allow your organization to store historical data about a _Risk Assessment_ and its _Assessment Risks_ (including risk scores and mitigation actions) in a structured format. Depending on the [configuration of your Vault](/en/lr/65904705/), the system may also automatically start an approved _Risk Assessment_'s periodic review workflow based on its _Next Review Date_ field.


## About Historical Risk & Risk Assessment Data

As a result, you can easily view previously approved _Risk Assessments_ and their _Assessment Risks_ at points in time, including the following data:

  * _Risk Assessments_:
    * Summaries
    * Approvals and eSignatures
  * _Assessment Risks_:
    * Risk scores
    * Risk mitigation actions
  * _Assessment Risk Mitigations_ (if using the `assessment_risk_mitigation__v` object)
    * _Mitigation Actions_ records (including _CAPA Action_, _Change Control_, _Continuous Improvement_, _MedTech CAPA_, and _Quality Event_)

## Viewing Historical Risk & Risk Assessment Data

You can view historical _Risk Assessment_ data in two ways:

  * Navigate to the current _Risk Assessment_ record detail page. Vault displays data from previous iterations of a _Risk Assessment_ in the _Assessment History_ section.
  * While viewing a _Risk Assessment_ in the [Risk Builder](/en/lr/54469201/), click the history icon <i class="fal fa-business-time"></i>.  Vault displays the list of _Assessment History_ records. When you select an _Assessment History_ record, the Risk Builder grid will refresh to show the associated _Assessment Risk History_ records records for the selected _Risk Assessment History_ record.

The columns displayed in the Risk Builder are based on the configuration chosen by your Admin.

## Related Permissions

To view historical risk and risk assessments data, you must have a security profile or role with the following permissions:

  * _Read_ permissions on the _Assessment Risk Mitigation_, _Risk Assessment History_, and _Assessment Risk History_ objects.
