User references point to the User object. Although User is not an object like Product or Study, Vault allows Admins to create special object fields that reference User object. When selecting from these fields, you see all active users in the Vault. Domain users who are not part of the current Vault don’t appear in the selection menu.
Unlike a reference field that points to a true object, these fields do not create a relationship between the selected user and the object record. See About the User & Person Objects for more information.
Suggested Uses for User Reference Field
These are some suggested ways to employ user reference fields in your own Vault:
- Add a Coordinator field to the Study Site object and use it to track which user is responsible for coordinating site documents.
- Use a Manager field on the Marketing Campaign object to keep a record of the user who managed the campaign.
