When configured, Direct Assignment is a method of “on-demand” training, where Training Admins manually assign training for an individual Training Requirement or all requirements in a Curriculum to one or more Learners who typically do not already have those records in their Training Matrix. Conceptually, Direct Assignment is one method of assigning training without a Learner Role.

Direct Assignment is an early Veeva Training feature that is now supplemented by newer on-demand training methods. These methods are frequently preferable to Direct Assignment and as such Training and Study Training Admins may instead consider:

  • Assign to Learner: An object action for on-demand training when a requirement should additionally be added to a Learner’s Training Matrix, and is another method of assigning training without a Learner Role. This means the Learner will continually receive further training, for example when Training Materials are revised. See additional details about how the Assign to Learner action differs from Direct Assignment.
  • Require Retraining: An object action for on-demand training when a Learner already has a requirement in their Training Matrix, and they must re-train for any reason, for example as the result of a CAPA investigation. See additional details about how the Require Retraining action differs from Direct Assignment.
